Frequently Asked Questions
What is SwarIT?
SwarIT is an ear-training app built specifically for Hindustani classical learners. Practice identifying swaras (sa, re, ga, ma, pa, dha, ni), chords, intervals, and melodies — all with a meditative tanpura drone in your chosen key. Switch between sargam and Western notation any time.
I'm new to Indian classical music. Is this for me?
Yes. Start with Single Note training on Level 1 — it introduces just two swaras at a time and adds more as you progress. The tanpura drone is always present to give your ear a tonal anchor (same as a real riyaaz session).
Why don't I hear any sound?
Three things to check:
- Silent mode. Flip your iPhone's silent switch on (orange visible = silent, off = sound). SwarIT respects the silent switch.
- System volume. Raise the volume rocker while the app is open.
- Drone toggle. Tap the तानपुरा chip at the top-right of any practice screen and confirm the drone is on.
How do I change the key (Sa)?
On any practice screen, tap the Key chip in the top-left. Pick from all 12 keys (C through B). The tanpura will instantly retune.
How do I switch instruments?
Tap the instrument chip at the top-center. On monophonic screens (Single Note, Melody, Intervals) you can choose Guitar, Piano, Oboe, or Banjo. On Chord training, only Guitar and Piano are available.
Can I practice without an internet connection?
Yes — all audio is bundled with the app. The only feature that needs internet is sign-in and progress sync. Once signed in, you can practice fully offline.
I signed up with my phone number. Can I add an email and password later?
Yes. We prompt you once during onboarding to set this up. If you skipped, you can re-enable from the Settings tab in a future update. In the meantime, email us and we'll add the credential to your account manually.
How is my data used?
SwarIT collects only what's needed to run the app: your sign-in identifier (email or phone), your practice progress (scores, streaks), and basic profile info (name, age, gender, country) for personalization. Audio captured by the microphone for vocal-match exercises is processed entirely on your device — it is never recorded or uploaded. We don't sell data and we don't use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my account?
Email us at aanchaldogra93@gmail.com from the address linked to your account (or include your phone number if you signed up via phone). We will permanently delete your account and all associated practice data within 7 days and confirm by email.
An in-app delete button is coming in a future update.
I found a bug or have a feature idea. Where do I send it?
Same email: aanchaldogra93@gmail.com. Helpful info to include if reporting a bug:
- What you were trying to do
- What happened instead
- Your iPhone model and iOS version (Settings → General → About)
- SwarIT version (Settings tab inside the app)
